Some of you know that Sep and I wrote the book several years ago, then updated it a few years ago, covering everything you need to know about…”Trolling Truths for Trout, Kokanee and Landlocked King Salmon”! With the resurgence of interest in trolling for fish once again, the seasoned guys who forgot what they knew, plus the newbies who have come into the sport, are searching for information. And so, interest in the book is rekindled.
Thirty some years ago, we found out we liked to catch fish... we bought a boat, learned how to troll and then built a business. We developed, produced and marketed our line of SEP’S ultralight trolling products and as a result, traveled to a lot of places, met many, many fine folks and led a rewarding and fun life. Since then, the business has sold but the lessons we learned remain!
The book is mostly about trolling of course, but there is a bit about other fish-catching techniques too. Anglers have trolled successfully for years, using many systems and techniques. Trolling is not rocket science, but doing it well is the goal. Properly utilizing new and innovative equipment and tools can make a difference. What we prefer is light…rods, reels, line and lures – we want to “feel the fight” after unlocking the combination using experience, judgement and a variety of equipment.
It is simple. Trolling involves idling the boat across the surface of the lake while placing offerings in the right place, at the right time, at the right depth, at the right speed, with the right lure, in the right color, with the right action, and proper presentation. Angling success is not measured by doing most things right…but by doing everything right!
Chapters in the book cover subjects like Right Place, Depth and Temperature, Time and Days and Trolling Speed. We talk about Downriggers - how, when and why, and Horizontal Hunting with Sideplaners. The latest innovations in State-of-the-Art Technology are featured and Line and Leader, Lures, Colors, Rods, Reels, Trolling Flies and Grubs, Scents and Alternatives are all dealt with. There are chapters on fish species…Rainbow, Brown and Cutthroat Trout, Kokanee and King Salmon, plus Saltwater Applications, and more. There are lots of drawings and plenty of photos, some of people you might know!
