ON PYRAMID with JD......MAY 18, 2021

PYRAMID LAKE, NEVADA

If you’re an angler…& haven’t fished Pyramid Lake, make plans & do it!

Professional Guide J.D. RICHEY (thesportfisher.com) issued the invite & SEP & buddy BOB SMALLEY (Smalley’s Tackle, retired) didn’t hesitate. They headed up on Monday nite & had a glorious fun day on Tuesday…lots of action topped off by Sep’s catch, a Lahontan Cutthroat Trout just under 12 pounds! Pyramid, 35 miles NE of Reno, has good accommodations, camping facilities & more. Check it out!!

Pyramid Lake at 125,000 acres is Nevada’s largest body of water and is considered to be North America’s most beautiful desert lake. It is 15 miles long, eleven miles wide, 350 feet at its deepest point and contains enormous picturesque monolithic rock structures. The opportunity to catch world-class Lahontan Cutthroat Trout consistently brings anglers to this destination.

Pyramid is home to the Paiute Indian Tribes the “Numu” who maintain and direct all facilities and activities at the lake. Permits must be purchased and fishing rules and instructions, including using barbless hooks and no baits, are to be followed. It is important to note that fishing and camping permits are obtained online only, through the Tribes.

Weather forecasts and changes play a major role in fishing activity at this very large body of water…winds can come up quickly and can create havoc on the water. It is probably best for novice anglers to fish with a guide rather than go it alone…guides can react quickly to impending dangerous conditions based on past experience.

The quality and quantity of the Trout is amazing and anglers regularly return from a fishing trip with stories backed by numerous photos. And then, there are tales of the trophies – which are weighed, photographed and returned carefully into the lake…the lake record stands at 41 pounds. Fish may be kept, based on slot size, but most are returned, to be caught again! The scenery also is worth mentioning – it is spectacular. The lake is surrounded by desolate desert and is cut from ancient Lake Lahontan that covered most of Nevada in prehistoric times. The unusual rock formations are legendary and truly awesome, especially those way out in the water.

For an angling experience like no other, make Pyramid Lake part of your “bucket list”. J.D. RICHEY guides during the season and can provide all the information to make it a memorable event. He can be reached at thesportfisher.com or 916.952.1554.

Do it…you’ll be glad you did!
