Lake Berryessa Bounty June 2020

The guys met early in the morning, June 16th, at Markley Cove at glorious Lake Berryessa – Garry Erck, his Dad, Ray and SEP! Garry’s new Rogue Jet was making its first trip on the lake. Even though the forecast said “breezy”, it really wasn’t bad. The sun shone and the water stayed perfect! Marilyn stayed home this time, babysitting Shooter & Gunner!

It turned out to be a good fishing day. There was plenty of conversation outside on the parking lot with Troy Barr, Big Al, Alan Fong and Warren Trembly, Jim Gilley & his buddy Gary, all waiting for the gates to open at 6AM. And there were lots of friendly fishermen on the water too, who passed by and waved and said hello. Happy guys, all enjoying the day!!

Sep says they fished………mostly around the Ranch House, Big Island and back towards the rock slide area. Dodgers with Apex lures or spinners or hoochies worked well, trolling at 1.3 to 1.5 mph at depths of 45 to 60 feet. Most effective colors – orange or chartreuse. As with most Kokanee anglers, a kernel of white corn on the hook is a requirement…and scented with tuna oil was the ticket – with lots of scent and re-scented often!

The Kokanee and King Salmon both provided plenty of action, also the nice sized Trout Sep caught. The fish were not particularly large – no record-setters, but healthy, strong and great fighters. Each one was a treat to catch!

They did not try the Dam area or out the mouth of Markley Cove…but that's worth checking out, and soon. We'll be heading over to Berryessa real soon!!
