Greetings to all! Hopefully you enjoyed the Christmas holiday and are now looking forward to what the New Year will bring. Just like you, we’re anticipating good things ahead!

Don’t know about you, but for us, 2021 flew by. A good thing actually as some things weren’t much fun. Spring came early with little rain, which emphasized the drought conditions and put everyone into a tizzy. Summer came early too with plenty of downright hot temperatures, many fires and way too much smoke in the air. California burned more good wood than they could have harvested for years…should have cleaned out those forests! Fall slid by under the radar and all of a sudden, it was Winter. Finally, rain – lots of it, and snow – a whole lot of it! Are we still to be conserving water?
Outdoors activities were definitely limited in 2021. Our “Corporate” RV didn’t get enough action – hopefully more campgrounds and places to go will be open this year. Getting vaccinated became the Mandate of all time and conversations centered around whether you did, should or didn’t. Wearing masks became a requirement and smiling faces simply didn’t exist…at times, not much to smile about!
Small businesses suffered, sports teams were humbled, outdoor events were eliminated, indoor events were not encouraged, family get-togethers were frowned upon, school was questionable and when masked kids did get into classrooms, time spent there was challenging, and so it went, on and on……
However, fishing was good – actually great, in many instances. The variety of species available to anglers was awesome. Saltwater produced some of the best fishing our area has ever had…Rockfish, Lings, Halibut, Crab and even tuna. The Bay and Delta gave up amazing numbers of Striped Bass and Sturgeon catching had hardcore guys drooling. Rivers, lakes and reservoirs had fine catches of Trout, Bass, Kokanee, Landlocked King Salmon, Mackinaw, Catfish & Crappie - as noted in pictures posted on social media.
Both radio shows, Ultimate Bass with Kent Brown, and our California Sportsmen, continued with the support of our sponsors, professional captains and guides and of course, our listeners. Couldn’t do it without them!! We were glad to be able to promote positive happenings and results and plan to keep it up in 2022! We’ll celebrate Year 26 of California Sportsmen…Kent on Ultimate Bass hits 17 years!
So, all in all, we made it through - just goes to show how resilient we all are. Now we go forth with renewed optimism, with brighter days ahead, hopefully.
We wish you all the Best New Year ever. We hope it brings you only good things… good health, good opportunities, fun times, much happiness and of course, great fishing!
Stay well, stay safe….HAPPY NEW YEAR ALL………..See you next year! SEP, MARILYN & GUNNER
