BERRYESSA BOUNTY

September 3-4, 2019

What a fishery Lake Berryessa has become! Stories have been swirling & Troy Barr has been posting some mighty fine photos of Kokanee & we were ready to hit it! The new Kingfisher boat was loaded up with necessities, reels were rigged with new line & rods were ready to go. Even remembered the net!

Sep’s brother Paul came with us both days as we experimented & fell back into a familiar routine. Haven’t trolled for awhile so things were a bit rusty the first day & the Motor Guide wasn’t cooperating…was a nice day though. The lake is full of clean water & the scenery is spectacular. We searched out the prime areas, saw scattered fish & played around with lures, corn, scent, depth, leader length…all the stuff Kokanee trollers do. We did catch some fish & quickly realized just how terrific the smaller Kingfisher boat and Mercury 4-stroke 115hp motor combo is.

Another thing that is fabulous is the Lowrance LIVE locator…it’s a technological wonder! Might take Sep awhile to totally master it!

Wednesday proved to be much more successful…the Motor Guide was synched & ran without a hitch. Scotty downriggers did their job & we had pretty good action. We felt good about getting back in touch with what we know works! We kept four fish, lost several, mostly right at the boat & actually accomplished what we had set out to do.

So, with Berryessa just down the road from where we live & with the results anglers are having, our Kingfisher will be a familiar sight on the water. It is just so much fun! The plus is…Kokanee are mighty fine table fare & are a guilt-free fish to keep. Kokanee do not spawn, are planted into the lake & like all salmon, die off after four years.

Our advice...head on over to Lake Berryessa & wave & say Hi when we see each other on the water!
